How to Find the Right Venue for Your Next Event

Live events, trainings, and workshops are powerful ways to make a tangible difference, attract clients and increase your income (by potentially tens of thousands, or more) per year. But if you don't have a venue to host your event... well, you don't have an event.

The first place I see my clients and Meetup students get stuck is where to find a venue with good vibes that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

There are plenty of boring office meeting rooms and dingy hotel rooms out there, but do these spaces really create the experience you want your participants to leave with?

Probably not. And remember, the experience you create is important because it's how you and your event will be remembered.

So the first step to finding the right venue for your next event is to consider the experience you want to create. If you're not sure, think about your brand. Is your brand classy? Elegant? Modern? Rustic? Edgy?

If your brand is classy, you wouldn't want to host your event at a sports bar. And if your brand is modern, you wouldn't want to host your event at a historic hotel. 

Make sense? 

Your event environment contributes to the experience your members have at your events, and their experience is how they remember you!

Where to find your next event venue...

The geographic location of your event influences your options. If you live in or near the city, all of the options listed below under "Event venue ideas" will probably be available to you. However, if you live in a small town or rural area, your venue options will be more limited.

If you feel stumped about where to find a venue for your next event, and you have a Meetup group, ask your members! There's likely someone in your group who is connected to the perfect space!

And remember, do the best with where you are and what you have. If you’re just starting out, you may not be able to pay hundreds of dollars to rent a space. Instead, find a nice community room donated by one of your members or a free hiking trail. 

Over time you’ll have more leverage and be able to secure better sponsorships and higher-end spaces.

  • Personal Homes (your home or a member’s home - be safe, this always comes with additional risk)
  • Community Rooms (in your apartment building or a member’s apartment building)

I have used almost all of the options above over the past 6 years of hosting events in Boulder, CO. As my Meetup group, Daring Divas has gained more traction and my business has grown, I've been able to upgrade my venues to nicer and nicer spaces.

And you will be able to do this too! Just remember to do the best with where you are and what you have, while keeping your brand and the experience you want to create in mind!
